1. Have Passport…Will Travel

Is God calling you to go on an international mission trip in 2008? Trips are now being planned for Prague, Chzeck Republic, Mexico, Mali, W. Africa, possibly Indonesia, and Brazil (early 2009). Even if you are just at the praying stage with God, step out on faith and get your passport - NOW! If you have a passport, check to make sure your passport is still valid for at least twelve months . . . and has at least six blank pages left . . . and renew if either applies. The need to Share Christ is tremendous around the world. Where is God calling you to go? If you need more information about upcoming mission trips, contact Charlotte Watson, 512/869-2586.

2008 Vermont Mission Trip

Interest Mtg: Sunday, June 1, 5-7pm, E2.109-111

Trip Dates: Sept. 26 - Oct 3

Adults are needed to provide encouragement, friendship, and prayer support for pastors and wives serving in Vermont. Other ministry may include: music, workshops, soup kitchen, food bank, adult daycare, and prayerwalking. 3. Women’s Houston Mission Needs Supplies for July

We are collecting sample size bottles of lotions, body washes, facial creams, toothpaste, etc.   You can donate at ReConnect on June 8th, or at any drop-off point in the church.

Trip Dates: July 5-11. A mission trip designed to meet the unique needs of women. We’ll join the mission efforts of Houston’s FBC Mission Training Center to conduct an adult VBS in the Spring Branch neighborhood of Houston. Praying for Missions . . . Electronically

Do you have a burden (or are you just willing) to pray for missions . . . and wish you could receive the latest prayer request for missionaries and mission needs?  If so, our E-Mail Mission Prayer Group is for you!  You never have to attend a meeting or pass information on.  You’ll just receive regular newsletters and up-to-the minute prayer request, via e-mail, from missionaries most of whom have FBC connections.  You can pray for them when it’s convenient for you.  It’s a great way to get involved in what God is doing around the world. E-mail Charlotte, cwatson {at} fbcgt(.)org, and “get connected” for missions praying.

Mission Acuna

Mission Acuña is a mission trip coordinated by First Baptist Church, Georgetown.  2007 is our 15th year to minister in Cuidad Acuña, Mexico. Our purpose is to glorify Jesus Christ by sharing the gospel, meeting human needs, and assisting the local church in starting and/or strengthening new churches. This is accomplished through a variety of ministry projects including medical, dental, and eyeglasses clinics, Vacation Bible School, prayer-walking, and evangelism. Mission Acuña involves ordinary people being used by God to accomplish extraordinary things.

Mission Atlanta

Following a vision trip to Atlanta in 2004, God began calling our church to be a part of a great mission taking place throughout inner-city Atlanta, Georgia. We responded to that call by taking our first team there in 2005. Our purpose is to be encouragers to the people at Moncrief Center and Set Free Ministries who devote every day to glorifying God through their work with men suffering from many different types and level of addictions; low income families; teaching God’s word to the children of those homes; feeding the homeless who come to these wonderful centers; and providing whatever other support is needed. Our work has been based on the words found in Ephesians 3:20-21, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” So far, the Lord has done far more in the hearts of those of us who have committed our time to go to inner-city Atlanta, than what we could ever give of ourselves.

Mission New York

What is Mission New York?

The 2007 mission trip was our sixth mission trip to New York City where we worked in partnership with Southern Baptist Missionary Taylor Field at East 7th Baptist Church and Graffiti Community Ministries.

The purpose is to glorify Jesus Christ by sharing the gospel and by serving in whatever ways we’re needed alongside the missionary and Graffiti volunteers who minister there year round.

This is accomplished through a variety of ministry projects including after-school tutoring, providing financing and helping to prepare and serve a Volunteer Appreciation Banquet, serving F.L.I.P. (Free Lunch in the Park) assisting with ongoing ministries at an area nursing home and Wednesday evening meal and Bible Study and ‘other duties as assigned.’

Our mission involves ordinary people being used by God to accomplish extraordinary things.

Goals of Mission New York

  • To spread the good news of Jesus Christ through every ministry project.
  • To glorify God and extend a positive Christian witness by our attitudes, actions, and appearance.
  • To assist Graffiti in reaching the people in their neighborhood for Jesus and for future ministry involvement.
  • To facilitate growth in spiritual maturity and in ministry skills in the life of each participant.
  • To encourage and support the missionaries, Graffiti workers, and fulltime volunteers.

Mission Vermont

In 2006, after 18 months of prayer and seeking God’s direction, a team of 12 from FBCgT departed for its first couple’s mission trip to Vermont. Johnnie and Lahoma Loar, Vermont Mission Mobilization State Coordinators, asked our church to come and serve in a first-time mission effort to provide “encourager” couples for Vermont missionary couples. Six FBCgT couples spent the week as encourager couples for 12 missionary couples in central, northwestern and northeastern Vermont. . The team will also served through prayerwalking, church soup kitchen, food bank, adult daycare, street ministry, and providing light construction and repairs. After the mission trip, couples from First Baptist made a one year commitment to provide encouragement, friendship and prayer support for Vermont missionaries.

Multi-Housing Ministry Needs You!

There are multiple opportunities for older youth and adults who would like to “love children to Jesus” through our multihousing ministry. Team Kid, our after-school ministry in Georgetown Square and Shady Oaks apartment communities, needs two or three adults who will give one hour a week to lead Bible studies, games, and activities that will help these children know of Jesus’ love. Training and user-friendly materials are available. Interested? Need more information? Contact Judy Kallman, Multihousing Coordinator, at 930-1857, for information or to get involved.

Prayer Advocates Needed

Pray for the Wassulu People Group of Mali, W. Africa or the German Brazilians in South Brazil. Contact Charlotte at cwatson {at} fbcgt(.)org to receive requests by email or snail mail!

Women on Mission

Women on Mission is an organization of Woman’s Missionary Union. At FBC, we have seven interesting groups for your choice! Choose from Bible study, prayer, ‘cookie’ visitations, ministry in nursing homes, hospital tray favors, Round Table Book Club, and Multi-focus (current missions).
