In an expanded partnership with Carver Elementary School, 1200 W 17th Street, Georgetown, FBCgT is seeking adults of all ages willing to be reading buddies. The time commitment is twice a week, 15 minutes each time, beginning in September. Carver’s goal is that every child reads at least 15 minutes a day outside of their classroom time. That’s where dedicated volunteers come in. Students, Kindergarten – 2nd grade, need someone to read to and they need to listen to someone read to them … a give-and-take opportunity. Weekly schedule is very flexible. In order to complete the background check and one hour of training, we are recruiting June 1 - July 15.

Over 200 volunteers joined Graffiti 2 as they hosted a day of games, entertainment, free hot dogs, free gift bags, a professional clown show and, of course, a hunt for 10,000 Easter Eggs. Over 1,500 people attended the event … and each one heard a Gospel presentation by the clown, Bombin. Nearly 100 people raised their hand indicating that they had accepted Christ in their life. FBCgT contributed financially as well as providing four of the volunteers.

Two other Easter Egg Hunts were held locally for our two Team Kid groups. The Lester LG hosted the Easter Egg Hunt at Georgetown Square and four youth, led by Sunny Schlaudt, hosted the Easter Egg Hunt at Shady Oaks. Thanks to all of these wonderful volunteers who gave of their time and resources to make this a special time for local kids.

He is in high school but could not see to do his studies. Now he has glasses and can continue his studies. He and his family are very appreciative. Because you gave, you also helped the son of another Pastor in Piedras Negras. He has been studying at a Bible School and is finishing his two years of studies. However, to complete his studies, he had to pay off his loans. He and his wife were selling things they didn’t need to help get the money. FBCgT also contributed to help him pay off his loans. Even though FBCgT is not going across the border now because of the dangers, we are still keeping in contact with the pastors and churches where we have served in the past.

The Round Table Book Club will hold their monthly meeting as they host guest reviewer Karen Hundley as she reviews Praying for Strangers by River Jordan. To escape her own fear - a paralyzing terror every parent of a solder understands - River Jordan resolves to pray for a stranger every single day for a year. And it’s the beginning of something extraordinary. This book reminds us (through the power of the simple act of prayer) that we can never assume we know the vast universe that exists inside the person next to us - or the one we are yet to discover inside ourselves. FBCgT is hosting an informational meeting with STARRY Foster Care, part of Children At Heart Ministries in Round Rock. You can learn about the minimum qualifications, home requirements and required training and licensing. You will also hear about the need for homes for children who need to be placed in emergency situation, an overview of the state Children Protective Services system, and what makes fostering through STARRY different.

Since 2003, FBCgT has had prayer partners praying for our church-adopted unreached people group, the Wassulu (WAHS-su-lu) of West Africa. These ethnic Fulani live in a region of West Africa that expands from the southwest corner of Mali, to the northwest corner of Côte d’Ivoire, and the northeast part of Guinea. Population estimates are at less than 100,000; too few for there to be career missionaries. The only way the Wassulu will know that Jesus loves them is if we go and tell them. FBCgT has taken teams to the Wassulu since 2004.

Will you join us in praying for the Wassulu, especially in light of the current political unrest since the coup took over the Malian capital on March 22?

It was an awesome experience and team members are continuing to email back and forth with several students with whom they made strong connections. The doors are open for having spiritual conversations! The trip is scheduled for October 17-26. All the plans are not complete as yet. First, we need to know who God is calling to go.
